Bar/Bat Mitzvah
This important milestone in Jewish tradition happens at the age of 13 for both girls and boys as they mark the transition into Jewish adulthood. Once a date is chosen in consultation with the Rabbi, you and your family will attend family learning sessions and informational meetings with other families going through the B’nai Mitzvah process, and personal family meetings with the Rabbi officiating the service. About a year prior to the Bar/Bat Mitzvah date, students begin weekly meetings with their tutor. During these meetings, which continue until the Bar/Bat Mitzvah date, the student will prepare all blessings, prayers, Torah, Haftarah, and English readings. The student will also attend special sessions with a Rabbi to learn the significance of their Torah portion and to prepare the D’Var Torah. Meetings with the clergy are essential for the student’s preparation.
