Social Justice Mission Statement for Shaarei-Beth El:

“Whereas racial justice is a Jewish issue…

because we were once strangers in a strange land and believe in the Jewish value of B’tselem Elohim, that we are all made in the image of the Divine,

because we are part of a multi-racial Jewish community with racially and ethnically diverse Jews from Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Latin America, and come in all colours, because we still have work to do to eradicate the racism and segregation that has crept into our culture and community and that has continued to plague our country and destroy lives,  “Justice, justice shall [we] pursue”. (Deut. 16:20),

therefore, through reflection on our own thoughts and behaviour, we will strive to build meaningful relationships with Jews of Colour and People of Colour generally, and to work for reforms that will achieve real, lived freedom for Black, Indigenous and all racialized people. “
